BNP Paribas and HSBC complete tokenized deposit FX payment via Swift for Siemens

Siemens moved money from its euro account at BNP Paribas in France to its sterling account at HSBC in the UK.

Siemens instructed the payment through its existing banking channels. No new wallet, account or treasury procedure was required.

Swift’s ledger coordinated and confirmed the banks’ tokenized-deposit obligations.

Swift did not provide final settlement. The banks completed settlement through their established processes.

➡️ Why this matters

This demonstrates how tokenized deposits could scale as a mainstream transaction-banking product:

1️⃣ Banks already have established relationships and settlement arrangements with one another.

2️⃣ Corporates can access multiple currencies and markets through their existing banking relationships, without adopting entirely new infrastructure.

3️⃣ Swift can provide the shared orchestration layer, connecting otherwise separate tokenized-deposit systems and coordinating transactions between them.

The emerging model is therefore not one universal tokenized deposit issued by a single bank.

It is a hub-of-hubs structure in which banks continue to issue and manage their own commercial-bank money, while Swift provides the common coordination layer needed to make those systems interoperable.
