Citi Launches Digital Asset Custody with Tokenized Bank Money

Citi is integrating digital asset custody with tokenized bank money in its latest custody upgrade.

Citi Investor Services has launched Custody+, a suite of near- and real-time custody capabilities designed for continuous markets, compressed settlement cycles and increasingly digital assets.

Following the U.S. rollout of Citi’s Single Event Processing technology, more than 80% of its total asset-servicing event volume is now processed in real time.

Custody+ brings together:

- Real-time asset servicing

- Instant settlement capabilities

- On-demand FX

- Real-time cash and liquidity management

- Digital asset custody

- White-label infrastructure for other institutions

Citi expects to launch digital asset custody later this year, starting with Bitcoin.

Starting with Bitcoin allows Citi to enter through the largest and most liquid digital-asset market, serving institutional investors that already hold or are preparing to gain exposure to the asset.

But the bigger story is not Bitcoin custody in isolation.

While Custody+ accelerates the asset side, Citi Token Services enables the near-instantaneous movement of tokenized commercial bank deposits, 24/7, across select Citi markets.
