Embedded wallets are the relationship layer for onchain finance and Kraken, the $20B exchange, just acquired infrastructure that has powered more than 60 million of them.
Magic Labs announced it has sold its embedded wallet business to Payward, Inc., the parent company of Kraken, the exchange business that raised $800M from Jane Street, Citadel Securities and DRW at $20B valuation.
Magic Labs’ infrastructure has powered more than 60 million non-custodial wallets, served over 200,000 developers and processed more than $10 billion in stablecoin volume.

Wallets are becoming the distribution and relationship infrastructure for onchain finance, similar to the role browsers played in distributing internet-based services.
They are where users hold assets, establish identity, authorize transactions and access financial products.
Payward has already assembled a broad portfolio spanning trading, custody, payments, tokenized assets, derivatives and on/off-ramps.
Its closest competitor - Coinbase - has a similar stack but with larger businesses across custody (Coinbase Custody), blockchain (Base) & wallets (Coinbase Wallet).
Serving the next generation of onchain financial products requires more than operating a centralized exchange. It requires infrastructure that enables banks, fintechs and other businesses to embed wallets directly into their own products.
This acquisition plugs that gap.
The acquisition gives Payward the ability to provide enterprise partners with trading, custody, payments and embedded non-custodial wallets through a single infrastructure stack.
And for retail users, Payward gains a single delivery mechanism for onchain native products.
