JPMorgan expands tokenized deposit payments with 5 new currencies.
JPMorgan has added AUD, HKD, JPY, RMB and SGD to its Kinexys Digital Payments platform, significantly expanding its capabilities for intra-Asian cross-border payments.
➡️ Why this matters
JPMorgan was the first global systemically important bank (GSIB) to introduce tokenized deposits, initially supporting USD before expanding to EUR and GBP. Those currencies primarily served major global financial hubs such as New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore.
With the addition of AUD, HKD, JPY, RMB and SGD, Kinexys is evolving from a USD-centric offering into a true multi-currency tokenized deposit platform.
This is particularly significant for Asia, where cross-border trade and treasury flows rely on a diverse mix of local currencies rather than a single settlement currency.
For multinational corporates, financial institutions and payment providers, this expands the range of 24/7 programmable payment and liquidity management use cases that can be supported on tokenized deposits.
Payoneer, a global fintech, will be the first customer to utilize the AUD tokenized deposits. JERA Global Markets, a Japanese energy company, will be the the first customer to utilize the JYP tokenized deposit.
JPMorgan is further strengthening its first-mover advantage and raising the competitive bar for banks seeking to build institutional digital cash infrastructure.
