BlackRock to Launch Tokenized HKD money Market Fund with Standard Chartered

BlackRock receives approval to launch tokenized HKD money market fund in partnership with Standard Chartered
BlackRock has received regulatory authorisation for the BlackRock HKD Digital Liquidity Fund, a Hong Kong-domiciled money-market fund designed to bridge traditional and onchain financial channels.
Eligible investors will be able to subscribe and redeem using fiat or digital cash, including tokenised deposits and regulated fiat-referenced stablecoins.
Standard Chartered will act as trustee, custodian and fund administrator. Investors will also be able to use HKDAP, issued by Standard Chartered-led Anchorpoint Financial, for subscriptions and redemptions.
➡️ Why this matters
1️⃣ Tokenised liquidity is becoming multi-FX
Tokenised MMFs have largely centred on US-dollar products. As tokenised deposits and regulated stablecoins emerge in additional currencies, institutions will need corresponding local-currency liquidity products, allowing them to earn yield without introducing unnecessary FX exposure.
2️⃣ It gives HKDAP an immediate institutional use case
HKDAP is one of Hong Kong’s first regulated HKD stablecoins and began its initial institutional rollout in August. The BlackRock fund creates a credible pathway between digital cash and a yield-bearing cash-management product.
3️⃣ Infrastructure and distribution are embedded
Standard Chartered is bringing custody, administration, banking relationships and digital-cash infrastructure together around the fund. That is commercially more significant than token issuance alone: it gives investors a joined-up route to acquire, hold and redeem both the fund and its settlement asset.
